Ideas for Capstone

For my project, I would like to create a website that is entirely controlled by eye movement. Wherever the user moves their eyes that is where the mouse would move and you would blink to click. I would also like to have the color scheme be controlled by the users heart rate. Knowing that color affects mood and mood affects heart rate, I would like to utilize that to ultimately keep the user in a positive, happy mood, but not have them feel too energetic or restless. This is a lot. SO for my other two Capstone ideas, I've broken it down:

Idea 2: A website controlled by eye movement/blinking.

Idea 3: A website who's color scheme is controlled by heart rate.

Ultimately, I would like to do both, but if I can't one will do.

Personally, I think the third idea MIGHT be more doable than the eye-controlled website. However, I don't think the ideas are that feasible, because there's no way that Flash or HTML can process eye movement or heart rate to change the visuals of the website.

I think the website controlled by heart rate would be easier to do than eye-controlled.
If you got a heart rate monitor with a chest strap and did some coding with variables if the heart rate is as a certain number.
No idea how you could get a computer to read the HRM though.

  4. I think any project that can incorporate biofeedback from the user has great potential. Maybe an exercise or game that actually teaches the user a skill they can use and improve with the game.

There are a few Capstone ideas from other students that might fit nicely with your idea.

  5. I definitely think a website's color scheme would be a great idea. It would have to have some heart rate raising/lowering content. Maybe a real-time graph of tuition costs, or related career openings. I kid, I kid. But that would be interesting to see play out.

  6. Your ideas seem really creative. The only thing is the blinking part, people would be clicking things on accident all the time. The thing about the website changing based on you the heart rate would be cool especially if you were playing a game because it could tell how into it you are.

  7. This is an awesome idea! Very original and very cool. I also see an issue with the blinking though, but if you made it a double-blink to click it would probably fix the issue. Controlling the site with heart rate would also be an interesting spin, especially if it changed the colors and schemes.

I think your ideas have incredible potential and would absolutely give you great recognition in the industry. Have you begun research on these topics? I don't know very much about software programming but it seems like the scope of these projects are larger than one semester. If you can do this I think you definitely should! They would be incredible Capstones.

Cool ideas I would love to try something like this out. I would hope this would be something very intuitive and easy to work with.

I think the combined-concept idea is wonderful. A website that interacts with you as opposed to you interacting with it is very interesting. Lloyd is right about technical challenges, but you could certainly find or make a way for a browser to interact with a program on the same computer that would do the eye/heartrate tracking.

  11. Hi Amy, I like your ideas. Here are some projects that you may find useful: http://www.openframeworks.cc and http://www.arduino.cc . I thought it would be cool if your sensors manipulated an interactive object instead of a website -- something as simple as a light even.
